This is one question which has always made me think when I read the newspapers every morning. During history lessons in school I used to get very much inspired listening to tales of heroism of some of our freedom fighters who gave their lives so that we could get an identity of our own.. i was and am proud of them and their sacrifice.
But looking in to the newspapers these days I and may be many of you also feel remorse and also some amount of anger welling up inside of me which i cannot vent other than by writing it out.
Seeing the recent news about the justice that was delivered after 25 years and the sentence given was 2 years and 25k rupees for killing 20,000 people in a single night!
I wondered if was this justice or a mockery of human life and value in India? The main accused was allowed to flee India on a chartered plane by none other than the then Prime minster of our country!
As the blame game continues and the current government finds a scape goat to sacrifice for this fiasco and then continue with what they were doing, I closed the news paper and wondered was this the identity that our freedom fighters gave their lives for, Indians to be known as a spineless class of people who live and die without a fight?
When India was being given freedom Winston Churchill said " Indians don't deserve freedom"
I read this in history class and was furious... but now I tend to agree with him!
We have been so used to obeying orders that when we are given the power to give orders we go corrupt and loose our moral values! I bet the current group of politicians, judiciary and bureaucrats have sold our pride, identity and even country to anyone who can satisfy their thirst for power and money! Thank God these two things don't give them immortality!
I am waiting for the day when we all will put our country first and ourselves last, may be that day will never come in this lifetime...
Till then I am ashamed to be an INDIAN!
